Resume or CV? One page or two?
The two questions people get wrong before they write a word. Both have straightforward answers in most cases.

The technical part
What makes a resume ATS-friendly
An applicant tracking system is not a scoring engine. It converts your document into searchable fields and lets a recruiter query them — which means a formatting problem is invisible to you and fatal to your application.
- One reading column. Two-column and sidebar layouts are the most common cause of a work-history block coming back empty, because the parser reads across the page rather than down it.
- Standard section headings. Use "Experience", "Education" and "Skills". Creative headings such as "My Journey" or "What I Bring" are not mapped to any field.
- Real text. Anything rendered as an image — a header graphic, a skill chart, a photo of a certificate — is unreadable to the parser.
- Literal keywords. Keyword search is usually exact. "Kubernetes" will not match "container orchestration", so write the noun the job ad uses.
- Consistent dates. MM/YYYY, most recent first, with no gaps left unexplained. Many parsers build a timeline and flag inconsistency.
