Sales Manager Resume Builder
Sales resumes are the easiest to screen and the easiest to get wrong. A recruiter looks for three numbers in the first pass: quota, attainment and team size. If those are not obvious in the first few lines, the document is closed — no amount of persuasive language recovers it.
This builder keeps your CRM and methodology keywords visible to an ATS search while giving you the room to state attainment year by year.

What Sales Manager hiring managers screen for first
Every field filters differently. Knowing what is being checked in the first thirty seconds tells you what belongs near the top of the page — and what can safely sit at the bottom.
- Quota and attainment, stated as percentages against target.
- Team size and whether you hired, coached or simply inherited the team.
- Deal profile — average contract value, sales cycle length, new business versus renewal.
- CRM and pipeline discipline.
Section order
The resume structure that works for a Sales Manager
Section order is not a style choice. It decides which information a recruiter meets first, and for this role the answer is specific.
Attainment summary
Unusually for a resume, a two-line attainment block at the top earns its place in sales.
Skills
CRM and methodology first, then selling motion (new business, renewal, enterprise).
Experience
Quota, attainment, team size and ACV per role. Year-on-year attainment is the strongest form.
Education
One line. Sales hiring weighs attainment far above education, so this is the shortest section on the page.
Keyword targeting
Skills and keywords for a Sales Manager resume
An applicant tracking system searches for literal noun phrases, so the vocabulary on your resume has to match the vocabulary in the job ad. Write the tool name, not a description of the tool.
Hard skills worth listing
- Salesforce
- HubSpot
- Pipeline management
- Forecasting
- Negotiation
- Account management
- MEDDIC
- Challenger sale
- Territory planning
- Coaching
- CRM
- Outbound prospecting
Only list what you can use unaided. Every item here is something an interviewer may reasonably test.
Phrases an ATS keyword search matches on
- quota attainment
- new business
- revenue growth
- sales cycle
- annual contract value
- renewals
- upsell
- pipeline coverage
- win rate
- territory
These are the phrases recruiters type into an ATS search box. If your resume says “container orchestration” and the search is for the platform name, you will not appear in the results.

Professional summary
Sales manager with 9 years in B2B software, currently leading a 12-person new-business team against a £6.8M annual quota. Team attainment 112% for three consecutive years, with average deal size grown from £28K to £61K.
Notice what is missing: no “hardworking team player”, no list of soft skills. Years, scope, one specific result. The AI summary writer in the resume summary generator builds this shape from your own details.
Achievement bullet points
- Led a 12-person new-business team to 112% of a £6.8M quota, the third consecutive year above target.
- Grew average contract value from £28K to £61K by moving the team upmarket and adding a technical discovery stage.
- Cut sales cycle from 142 to 96 days by rebuilding the qualification criteria around MEDDIC, lifting win rate from 19% to 27%.
Each bullet follows the same pattern: action, method, measurable result. Replace the figures with your own — never with numbers you cannot defend at interview. The bullet point generator rewrites your existing duties into this form.
Layout
Templates that suit a Sales Manager resume
These all use a single reading column, standard section headings and real selectable text — the three properties that decide whether an applicant tracking system can parse the document at all.
Applicant tracking systems
Why ATS formatting matters for this role
An applicant tracking system does not rank resumes out of 100. It parses your document into fields — job titles, dates, employers, skills — and lets a recruiter search those fields. Anything it cannot parse effectively does not exist, which is why formatting is a functional requirement rather than an aesthetic one.
| Parses reliably | Frequently fails |
|---|---|
| Single reading column | Two-column layouts and sidebars |
| Standard headings: Experience, Education, Skills | Creative headings like "My Journey" |
| Real text, selectable and searchable | Text inside images or graphics |
| Simple bullet characters | Custom icon fonts and symbol glyphs |
| MM/YYYY date format | Ambiguous or missing dates |

Common questions
Sales Manager resume FAQ
Should I put my quota and attainment at the top of the resume?
Yes. Sales is the one function where a headline results block is conventional and expected. Two lines — quota, attainment, team size — placed directly under your summary means the reader has what they need before they reach your history.
How do I explain a year I missed quota?
State the number and the context in one line without excuse-making. "104% in 2024, 87% in 2023 against a quota raised 40% mid-year" is more credible than omitting the year, which invites the assumption that it was worse than it was.
Do I need to name my CRM?
Yes, explicitly. Salesforce, HubSpot and Dynamics are literal keyword filters in many sales searches, and "CRM experience" without a platform name will not match them.
Should I include individual contributor results if I now manage?
Keep one or two lines of your best IC numbers — they establish that you have actually sold. Everything after that should be about the team's performance and what you changed to produce it.
