Short and factual beats persuasive
Three paragraphs: the role and your current position; two pieces of evidence; the close with availability and right to work. Irish recruiters and their EMEA talent teams read for fit and for logistics.
Write the short, factual cover letter Irish and European-headquartered employers expect: A4, day-first date, 200–350 words, and the right-to-work line that settles the question early. Free, with no sign-up.

Vocabulary
Using the wrong word for the document is the first small signal that an application was not written for Ireland. These are the terms you will see in job adverts.
cover letter
Irish English
The standard name in Irish recruitment.

Irish English
Used in public-sector and academic adverts.
CV
Irish English
Always a CV in Ireland, never a 'resume'.
The conventions
Ireland recruits on the CV and treats the cover letter as a short covering note. Two hundred to three hundred and fifty words on one A4 side is right; a letter that argues at length stands out for the wrong reason. The register follows British practice — day-first dates, British spelling, no photograph, no personal identifiers — with a slightly plainer tone and 'Kind regards,' as the everyday sign-off.
Dublin and Cork host the European headquarters of a large share of the technology, pharmaceutical, financial-services and aviation-leasing sectors, and their hiring teams read applications from across the EU and beyond. Two consequences follow for the letter. First, the right-to-work question is answered early and in one clause, because the recruiter may be screening dozens of nationalities in a week. Second, the letter is written to be read by someone who does not know your local employer: name the organisation, its scale and what it does, rather than assuming recognition.
Public-sector roles — the HSE, local authorities, universities and state agencies — work to a specification and a panel, closer to the British model. There the letter addresses the stated requirements point by point and stays formal.

What recruiters expect
01
Three paragraphs: the role and your current position; two pieces of evidence; the close with availability and right to work. Irish recruiters and their EMEA talent teams read for fit and for logistics.
02
For a European-headquartered reader, 'a 40-person funds administrator in Galway' says more than the company name. Add scale, sector and market in a clause.
03
EU citizens can state it in three words. Non-EU applicants should name the permission they hold or the fact that they need an employment permit; Critical Skills Employment Permit roles are worth naming explicitly because they are the fastest route.
04
Writing 'resume' in an Irish application marks it as American. The document is a CV, normally two pages.
05
Day-first dates, British spelling, honourifics without a full stop. 'Yours sincerely' after a named greeting and 'Yours faithfully' after 'Dear Sir or Madam' remain correct in formal correspondence, though 'Kind regards,' is now the common close.
06
Salary expectations are discussed at first contact, not in the letter, unless the advert asks. Date of birth, marital status, a photograph and nationality stay off the application under employment equality practice.
Paragraph by paragraph
The generator follows this order. You can see it in the preview before you export anything.
Name, email, phone, county or city, then a day-first date. Address blocks for the employer are used only in formal posted correspondence.
One sentence naming the role, one naming what you do now and where, with scale. Mention a referral here if you have one.
Each tied to a requirement in the advert, each with a number where one is honest.
Right to work, notice period, relocation if relevant, then the request for a conversation and the sign-off.
The shape on the page
Layout only — the generator fills this with your own facts, never with placeholder text you have to remember to delete.

[Logistics: right to work, notice period, relocation — then the request for a conversation.]

IrishJobs.ie
The main domestic board; most adverts name a contact.

State roles; specifications and selection boards apply.
Company careers pages
EMEA headquarters hire through their own ATS (Workday, Greenhouse, Lever).
Questions
For most private-sector roles it is optional but useful, and for public-sector, academic and senior roles it is expected. When the portal offers a field, fill it — a blank one is never an advantage.
Two hundred to three hundred and fifty words on one A4 side, three paragraphs. Irish recruiters reward brevity more than American ones do.
State your right to work in one clause. EU citizens can say so in a few words; non-EU applicants should name the permission they hold or acknowledge that a Critical Skills Employment Permit would be needed.
'Kind regards,' is the common close in Irish business correspondence. 'Yours sincerely,' remains correct after a named greeting and is expected in formal public-sector letters.
British. Irish business writing follows British conventions, and multinationals in Dublin do not correct for it.
